The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) invites applications for the Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MSc-HPE) under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. This program is designed to prepare exceptional educators and leaders who are passionate about transforming health professions education across Africa.

Program Overview

The Master of Science in Health Professions Education is an innovative program that equips health educators and leaders to design, deliver, and evaluate high-quality, equitable, and impactful health education programs.

This fully funded Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program pathway supports professionals who are committed to shaping national HPE policies, leading institutions, and contributing to educational reform across Africa.

Graduates will gain advanced skills in curriculum design, educational leadership, quality assurance, and research—preparing them to lead institutional, national, and regional education transformations.

The program follows a blended learning model, combining flexible online coursework with immersive in-person sessions at UGHE’s campus in Butaro, Rwanda.

Admissions Interviews: December 2025
Final Decisions: January 2026

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be 35 years old or younger at the time of application (exceptions apply for applicants with disabilities).
  • Be citizens, residents, or hold refugee status in an African country.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field (official transcript and degree certificate required).
  • Have professional experience in teaching, supervision, or educational leadership within a health-related higher education institution.
  • Provide a signed institutional endorsement letter confirming support and availability to attend the program.
  • Not hold a prior master’s degree if applying through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

  1. Complete the online application for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, providing all required personal and academic information.
  2. Upload the following supporting documents:
    • National ID, Passport, or Refugee ID
    • Academic transcript(s) and degree certificate
    • Employer recommendation letter (if applicable)
  3. Submit a single, fully completed application. Incomplete or multiple submissions will not be considered.

The University of Global Health Equity and the Mastercard Foundation do not charge any fees to apply for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. Applicants are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local authorities.
